Wales o40s win BUT o60s lose out to England!

2nd April
Wales o40s 6, Devizes 1
In the first of two Wales Veterans' Football matches at Ocean Park Arena today, the Wales o40s (main picture) put in a strong performance against the team from the West Country and goals from Maher, Bannon, Tranter, Davies, Truman & MoM Carl Davies (pictured) were enough to secure a comfortable win for Laurence Owen's men.

In the second game of the day, Wales o60s lost out to England despite taking a 1-0 lead through Pepe Mele. The hosts started brightly but after taking the lead they became nervous and disorganised, allowing MoM Archie Lloyd to score two goals and swing the game very much the visitors' way. A third by Jeff Short, who was left unmarked in the area settled matters in favour of the men in white.

Thanks go out to Wales veterans Football Committee men, Murray, Giles and particularly Averies for their hard work in putting these fixtures on.

29th March
A Wales 55s Representative team took on a Swansea Uni over 50s Select team at Britton Ferry and came away with a comfortable 5-1 win. Four goals by Barry Town's 'in-from' striker, Mike Fredriksen and another by Keith Williams secured the victory.

Congratulations to Team manager, Shane Davies and his squad of players...

Wales o50s 4, England o50s 3
Congratulations to Wales o50s who defeated England in a pulsating game at Ocean Park Arena.

In another great afternoon for Wales Veterans Football, Wales o50s, the reigning 'o50s British Champions' played some fabulous football to record a deserved win, scoring through the outstanding Nick Francis (2), Anthony Thomas & Vince Lewis. Francis was also named MoM with England Keeper Mark Bedford earning the same distinction for his team.

Manager Rogan Matthews, was obviously pleased with the result saying [i]"It was great to come away with a 'W' in what was a great game of football played with great spirit from both teams."

12th February
[b Wales o40s 1, British Army veterans 2

...writes Paul Averies.
A Wales Veterans Football o40s squad faced a strong British Army veterans side at Ocean Park Arena, Cardiff today and in a fiercely competitive match were edged out 2 goals to 1.

The visitors, possibly Wales' toughest opponents, were deserved 2 nil leaders at half-time, but Wales fought back in the second half, and got a goal through Andrew Cook in the second half but the 'Army' held onto their advantage and claimed the win.
Manager, Laurence Owen said "this was a top quality game of football today and I was pleased with our performance against a strong and fit Army Team and look forward to the rematch in Aldershot."

RAF Veterans hosted Workwear Supermarket.com Wales Veterans Football in a double header at the University of South Wales Campus in Treforest on Saturday 11th December and secured two fine victories.

Wales o55s lost by the odd goal after putting in a strong performance, but an 40s squad, featuring 6 debutants, succumbed 5-0 to a younger, fitter and high quality opponents. The RAF accepted the Neil 'Davo' Davies Trophy, in memory of the Wales Veterans legend, who sadly passed away in November aged just 50. Many thanks go to our great friends at RAF Veterans, who made a generous donation, in honour of Neil, to Macmillan Cancer Care, who gave so much support to Neil and his family during his brave fight.
