Wales o65s defeat Seasiders

By Alun Huish

Saundersfoot o60s 1, Wales o65s 3

Wales veterans Football took an o65s Squad to Saundersfoot to take on an o60s team managed by Wales Vets legend Steve 'Napoleon' Branch and came away with a satisfying victory.

Although the pitch looked fabulous, both sets of players struggled with firm ground, exacerbated by the very short cut grass. Wales only got their usual fluent passing game going sporadically and relied on set-pieces to take a 2-goal lead into half-time through Williams and Vaisey, after the home side had lost their keeper to injury.

In the second period, the visitors did improve and debutant Gibb scored a 'wonder' goal with a 'looping' effort that the bewildered stand-in keeper watched sail into the net...apparently the extra swerve created by ice on the ball was decisive! The home team fought back scoring a deserved goal which sent the sizable crowd into raptures!

Thanks to Steve and everyone at the Saundersfoot Club for a warm welcome and great send off!
