Wales Veterans' Football welcomed an England squad to Ocean Park Arena on Saturday 11th February for an o50s international.....
Wales started brightly with Wales' MoM, Shane Davies having his usual influential outing. The visitors gradually improved but in a fairly even first half, both defences stayed resolute and neither keeper was called into any serious action.
After the break England began to control the midfield areas with Bayliss pulling the strings. Striker (and eventual man-of-the-match) Dawes, was causing real problems with his pace and control and on 65 minutes it was he who made the breakthrough, finishing well after an accurate cross from the left. They extended their lead on 75 minutes, after a period of possession, and the impressive Bayliss bundled home past Wales stopper Bailey. Wales pressed forward with intent but lacked real quality in the final third against an England defence, well-marshalled by Vowden, and keeper Steadman was rarely troubled.
The game ended with a disappointing defeat for Rogan Matthews' team and although there were some positives to take, the manager is still looking for the form that saw his 'charges' claim two Home Nations trophies in succession.
