Wales o40s unbeaten run continues!

By Alun Huish

Wales o40s 3, Droitwich o35s 1

The Wales Veterans' Football Association welcomed an o35s squad from Droitwich to Cardiff's Ocean Park Arena to face a Wales o40s representative squad on 2nd November 2024 and goals from Paul Keddle, Cei Mason and Matthew Hughes stretched their unbeaten record to two years...writes Laurence Owen...

Manager, Owen, as usual, was looking to utilise his strong o40s 'league players pool' and gave debuts to Matthew Hughes, Sean Jones and Wayne Williams, who had impressed for their clubs and in Wales training sessions and they all caught the eye!

In a starting formation of 3-4-3 the Welsh side set the pace from the start and pressed high, causing their opponents problems and Paul Keddle’s first half strike proved to be the difference at the interval.

With all 16 players being used before the second half started, Wales continued their possession domination and Cei Mason made it 2-0 on 58 minutes. Droitwich got themselves back into the game with 12 minutes remaining but Matthew Hughes almost immediately made it 3-1 with a neat finish.

Goalkeeper John Howe had very little to do but his handling and distribution was excellent and the 16 player squad all played their part in a very confident and assured display. Defender Liam Screen lifted the MOM award.
