Wales Veterans' Football hosted an 40s match against the Prison Service and the spoils were shared..writes manager, Laurence Owen...
Wales we’re dealt a blow with two late withdrawals from the matchday 16 having already been without 8 players, but you would never have known The 14 man squad was weakened as they flew out of the blocks and were 1-0 up within 10 minutes, a superb cross from Mark Dunne playing out of position at right wing back found striker Ben Bannon who’s bullet header flew into the corner of the net. It was possession football at its best and on 20 minutes Bannon was tripped in the box and his strike partner Neil Thomas Cooly slotted the subsequent penalty home for 2-0 . A contentious decision on 40 minutes saw Steve Davies burst clear only to be clattered outside the box by the keeper...with the referee giving a yellow!!
HT 2-0
Wales started the second half sluggishly and were punished on 52 minutes for not dealing with a corner as a bouncing ball was lashed into the net for 2-1. Lively Striker Davies made it 3-1 Wales on 62 minutes with a near finish . All credit to the Prison service though as their younger legs began to find lots of space and they punished wales with two quick goals on 74 and 79 minutes to level the scores.
FT 3-3
The game should have been out of site for wales who had lots of chances but fair play to the prison service they upped their game second half and took advantage of a tiring and sometimes shapeless Wales squad
