Wales o40s beat Llanelli in friendly

By Alun Huish

Wales 40s 2-0 Llanelli 40s.......... Leckwith campus, Cardiff.............. 25th August 2024

The Wales Veterans' Football Association hosted this friendly between an o40s Representative squad and a very good Llanelli squad at Leckwith Campus in Cardiff and came with a satisfying win...writes a pitch-side reporter....

The first half was evenly contested by two very good teams and with neither managing to break the deadlock as remained at 0-0 going into the break.

But two goals in the second half by Penydarren's Paul Keddle and Ferndale's Cei Mason extended the Wales 40s squad long unbeaten record as they deservedly took the spoils after dominating for most of the second 45 minutes. Keddle slightly diluted his good performance with a weak penalty miss and Skipper Mark Dodds (Cardiff Corries) dominated at Centre Half and gave his opponents no ground but it was Penydarren's Scott Pike who got the Man of the Match award for a superb individual performance.

Manager Laurence Owen commented "this was a great run-out for both squads ahead of the new season!"
