England claim o70s NHS Trophy at Briton Ferry

WALES Veterans' Football proudly hosted the second ever o70s football international when they welcomed England to Briton Ferry Llansawel FC on 21 April, and in front of a sizable crowd, the visitors retained the NHS trophy after a strong second half performance.

In an even first half, both sides struggled on the difficult surface although both had opportunities to take the lead. Wales keeper, Paul 'Sasha' Young saved well from England MoM, Jim Ellis and Wales striker Billy Arnold saw his shot just clip the outside of the post.

In the second half England's strength in depth proved decisive, and despite the brave efforts of the Welsh defenders, particularly Tovey and the outstanding MoM Dave Abbott, England captain, Rob Beel, capitalised on two fundamental Welsh errors to give his team a deserved victory.

The Wales Management team were pleased with the performance and the desire shown by their team, which was a huge improvement on the 'first' encounter at St George's Park. 'Newcomer', Ryland Wallace impressed and the team is set to be strengthened further as several players from the o65s squad 'move-up' to the 'Seniors' before the next match towards the end of the year!
