3rd March
Cardiff Academicals 0, Swansea 4
A convincing win for the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com League champions away to the Accies. A Dave Lockett brace plus further goals from Otway and Grey sealed the win for the Swans at Cardiff University Fields.

18th February
Barry Town 6, Merthyr Tydfil 0
A comfortable win for the hosts at a foggy Bro Morgannwg against a defiant Merthyr. Barry dominated possession allowing Mark Jones to put them ahead with a fine shot from distance. Mackay tapped in from close-range after good wing-work by Murray, before Dalton put Barry 3-0 up going into the break. The second half continued in the same vein, the visitors fighting a stubborn rear-guard but the movement of the hosts was just too much for them to contain. Bobbett grabbed the headlines in the second half, firstly powering in a super header from Gibbins’ inch-perfect cross, then driving home from 8 yards, before completing his hat-trick after rounding the keeper, to give his team a well-deserved three points.

4th February
Barry Town 0, Swansea 2
Congratulations to the Swans who claimed the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com League title with a fine win away to Barry Town. In blustery conditions, Lockett put the visitors ahead after 3 minutes when Barry captain, Mark Jones, slipped on the ‘icy’ Bro Morgannwg pitch! The hosts did well for the rest of the half into a strong wind, but Swansea showed why they are champions with a fine display of controlled football in the second half. Man-of-the-match, Fisher, terrorised the home defence and Pasquintino capped off a superb game with a fine finish, to ensure Gary Lloyd’s charges lifted their first ever Wales Veterans title!

Newport 3, Pontyclun 7
Last season’s League champions claimed runners-up spot in the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com League with a strong performance against Newport, including hat-tricks by Mele and Fitzgibbon, but it was a rare goal by Ian Thomson that set them on their way. Vaughan and Pickering (2) were on target for the hosts.

21st January 2024
Merthyr Tydfil 0, Swansea 10
A ‘shutout’ for the Swans at Penydarren Park who only led 2-0 at the interval through Hope and Seago. Further goals were scored by Hope, Fisher (2) Myerscough and a Cooper OG, before Otway completed the rout with a late hat-trick. The result keeps the Swans at the top of the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com League.

Newport 1, Barry Town 4
A strong first half performance by the visitors saw them score early through Mackay and Bobbett and subsequently secure a fine win at Llanwern School. Tadman got one back for the hosts, against the run of play, but when Jones powered in a header from a Gibbins corner, normal service was resumed. The in-form Bobbett completed his brace with super strike that took his team in 4-1 up at the interval. A consummate defensive second half performance saw the visitors through.

Pontyclun 13, Cardiff Academicals 1
A big win for the ‘Clun’ at the University Fields in Cardiff with Taylor scoring an impressive four and Cope and Mele grabbing a hat-trick a-piece. The walkover was completed with further goals by Ryan, Thomson and Hosey with Langley getting the Accies consolation late on.

7th January 2024
Barry Town 5, Cardiff Academicals 2
An enjoyable game of football at a sunny Jenner Park saw the hosts dominate possession for most of the game but only secure the 3 points in the last 20 minutes! Hill put Barry ahead after 10 minutes with a fine strike...before a defensive lapse allowed Miles to equalise. Although Nash and Owen were prominent for the visitors, the hosts pressed forward with intent, and a poor clearance was seized upon by Jones, who lobbed home from 25 yards to put Barry ahead again. In a repeat for the Accies first goal, Miles again capitalised on uncertainty in the home defence to make the score 2-2 at the interval. The game continued in a similar vein, and although it took until the 60th minute to break the deadlock, Bobbett finishing well, the obstinate Accies were ‘camped’ in their box, a situation exacerbated by the loss of Nash to injury. Minutes later Hill bagged his second, but failed complete his hat-trick when he was viciously scythed down by Grimsdale! The frustration in front of goal continued.... a dozen corners, the woodwork struck 4 times, several golden opportunities ‘misplaced’ and Accies gloveman, McSorely, in sparkling form. With 10 minutes remaining, Dalton was ‘wiped-out’ and Huish converted the resultant penalty to secure the win!

Pontyclun 10, Merthyr Tydfil 0
An emphatic win for the 'hosts' at the University Fields in Cardiff saw Mele grabbing a hat-trick against the usual spirited and competitive Merthyr side! Further goals from Taylor (2), Baldwin (2), White, Ballysingh and Hosey secured the 3 points which keeps them hot on the heels of WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League leaders Swansea.

Swansea 5, Newport 0
A comfortable three points for the hosts at Penyrheol Leisure Centre moves them within touching distance of their first WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League title! On the scoresheet were Otway (2), Lockett, Myerscough and Medwin (pen)

10th December
Barry Town 1, Pontyclun 1
The big game of the day ended all-square at a blustery Bro Morgannwg with the hosts, playing into the wind in the first half, dominating for periods but facing fierce resistance from a defiant rearguard but they missed two gilt-edged chances and then inevitably succumbed to a sucker-punch goal. On the 30 minute mark, White seized on a long ball forward and his well-struck shot from the edge of the penalty area, found the bottom corner to give his side a 0-1 half-time lead.

In the second period, with the strong wind behind them, the hosts pressed forward for parity but spurned several opportunities to equalise. Likewise, the visitors, were still dangerous on the break, with Taylor pulling the strings, but they also failed to hit the target when well-placed. With 15 minutes remaining a Jones free-kick found Huish, and his header, from the edge of the box, beat the keeper to make the scores level. The hosts pushed for a winner but the match ended 1-1.

Cardiff Academicals 1, Swansea 5
A comfortable win for the League leaders at Cardiff University Fields with Lockett bagging a fine hat-trick. The visitors were on their game from the start and scored further goals from Otway and Stephen. Welsh got a consolation for the Accies.

Barry Town v Merthyr Tydfil – match abandoned!
This match at Jenner Park was abandoned 20 minutes in when Wales Veterans FA stalwart, Les Davies, suffered a heart attack. Thanks to the prompt action of referee Shaun-Paul Chapman and Les’ Barry Town colleagues, particularly Jimmy Blackie and Paul Union, a major incident was averted. He has since had a stent fitted and is hopefully on his way to a full recovery.

Newport 5, Cardiff Academicals 4
An absolute goal-fest at Llanwern School, with the hosts winning by the odd goal in Nine! Andrew Owen, Roger Langley and Paul Welsh (2) were on target for the visitors. Terry Compton (2), Paul Staddon, Ronnie Rahman and Nick Gartside were Newport’s scorers.

Pontyclun 0, Swansea 3
The visitors (pictured) bounced back after their defeat last time out with a resounding win at Y Pant School. Goals from Andy Jones, Paul Otway and Rob Seago secured a valuable 3 points for the Swans which moves them back to the top of a ‘wide-open’ WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League.

12th November
Merthyr Tydfil 5, Cardiff Academicals 2
The hosts (pictured) got off the mark in emphatic style at Penydarren Park, scoring through Graham Perry (2), Des Astley (2) and John Ayers. The Accies, as usual, made a good game of it and Paul Welsh replied with a brace.

Pontyclun 3, Newport 0
A good win for the hosts at Y Pant School moves ‘Clun’ into top spot in the WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League. A brace from Jeff White and a third from Ciaran Fitzgibbon secured a comfortable three points.

Swansea 0, Barry Town 1
A fine win for the visitors against the unbeaten hosts at Penyrheol blew the WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League wide open. In a tremendous game of veterans’ football, the Swans edged the midfield duel with their added mobility but Barry’s back-four were outstanding and strikers, Alun Huish, Stu Mackay and Gavin Orr were always dangerous...so it was Swansea’s Alan Meacham who was the busier of the two goalkeepers. He saved well from Huish (twice), Barry Marshall and Dave Murray, before finally being beaten on the hour by Steve Branch’s superb 35 yard strike.

29th October
Barry Town 0, Newport 2
After a fairly even start at Bro Morgannwg, Newport’s (always) dangerous Gary Vaughan capitalised on a loose pass. His shot was parried by Barry stopper John Jones, but Steve Tadman was on hand to slam home the rebound on 20 minutes. Barry’s Mike Bobbett was unlucky to see his floated shot superbly finger-tipped away by visiting keeper Jon Ross...who was 10 metres outside his area! Moments later Steve Thomas made was on target to take his side 0-2 going into the interval, again capitalising on a defensive error.. Barry improved slightly after the break and both teams had opportunities to score, but the visitors claimed a deserved 3 points.

Cardiff Academicals 0, Pontyclun 3
Pepe Mele gave the visitors an early lead at Llanrumney and Stu Evans made it 0-2 before the interval. The same player secured a comfortable 3 points for the title holders in the last minute of the game.

Swansea 10, Merthyr Tydfil 0
An emphatic win for the hosts at Penyrheol saw a hat-trick by Rico Pasquantonio, a brace from Paul Otway and further goals by Chris Grey, John Harris and Mal Coady. This result maintains the Swans unbeaten start to the WorkwearSupermarket.com o60s League season.

15th October
Cardiff Academicals 0, Barry Town 2
A good battle between two decent sides at University Fields saw the visitors claim the lions share of possession but the hosts threatening on the break. Steve Branch gave Barry the lead from the penalty spot after Kevin Brown’s mazy run was brought to an abrupt halt through with a crude scythed ‘tackle’ and it remained 0-1 going into the break. Accies were, as usual, hard to break down, but a fine ball by Gavin Orr was coolly converted by the busy Stu Mackay and his team held on for the 3 points. The game ended on a sour note when Accies ‘debutant’ defender, Phil Bessant suffered a broken ankle when he fell awkwardly...all our best wishes go out to him.

Merthyr Tydfil 0, Pontyclun 6

A Pepe Mele hat-trick, along with a brace by Jeff White and a goal by keiran Fitzgibbon were enough to secure a comfortable win for the visitors at Penydarren Park.

Newport 0, Swansea 8.
An emphatic win for the visitors at the University Fields Cardiff against a strong Newport team. A brace a-piece from Rob Seago, Mal Coady and Paul Otway and further goals by Rico Pasquantonio and Andy Robinson sealed the 3 points for the unbeaten Swans.

---------------------------------------------------

1st October
Pontyclun 2, Barry Town 1
A deserved win for the hosts at Y Pant School with Huw Taylor heading in a Robbie Ryan Corner to give them a 1-0 half time lead. Ciaran Fitzgibbon scored on the hour from another set-piece and although Mike Bobbett scored with 10 minutes remaining, Pontyclun were good value for their win.

Newport 6, Merthyr Tydfil 1
A convincing win for Newport at the University Fields with Terry Compton, David Griffiths (2), Paul Staddon (2) and Gary Vaughan on target. Mark Price got a consolation for the defiant visitors (pictured).

17th September
The O60s WorkwearSupermarket.com League got underway with a shock result...

Swansea 3, Pontyclun 0
This big win for the hosts at Penyrheol Leisure Centre also put a dent in the title aspirations of last season’s league and cup winners, Pontyclun. An even and energetic first half ended with Swansea taking a 1 nil lead into the break when Pasquantonio converted a penalty.
In the second half Pontyclun pushed for parity but Swans keeper, Seago and his central defensive partners Otway and Kowalski were rarely troubled. Dave Lockett put the hosts 2-0 up on 75 minutes and Swans ‘supremo’ Andy Jones secured an excellent 3 points with a goal minutes before full time.

Cardiff Academicals 2, Newport 5
The Accies welcomed a Newport team to the University Fields for an entertaining, competitive match with plenty of goalmouth activity. The visitors had decent possession in the first half but it was the hosts who took a 2-goal lead into the interval with goals by Welsh and Langley.
A much improved performance from Newport in the second half saw them score 5 times and secure a deserved win with goals coming via a brace-a-piece for Vaughan and Thomas and a goal from Skyrme.

Barry Town 4, Merthyr Tydfil 0
After a scrappy start by both sides the game settled down into a decent open game of football on the vast and fast ‘Bont’ pitch. The visitors seized the initiative with Branch and Les Davies orchestrating but Craig Jones, Cleaver and Cooper were resilient until Orr gave Barry the lead on 25 minutes with a composed finish. He scored a second with a powerful left foot drive to take his team in 2-0 up at the break.
Barry controlled the remainder of the game, although the home side were always a threat on the break with Price dangerous but Barry’s Gibb was consummate at the back. MoM Branch made the game safe with a fine lob over the keeper from 25 yards and the busy Mackay got a deserved 4th to secure a fine 3 points for the visitors.
