o60s Tournament in Milton

Oxfordshire Tournament abandoned but WVFA Offical saves the day!

The Wales Veterans Football Association accepted an invitation to send an o60s squad to take part in the annual Milton o60s Tournament in Oxfordshire on 20th August, but, unfortunately the event was cut-short when a player from the Oxfordshire County team suffered a cardiac arrest during a group match.

Thankfully, alert Wales Veterans' FA Committee member, Paul Averies, dashed to the scene where he activated the WVFA mobile defibrillator and the player, Kevin Bovington, regained consciousness. Minutes later the Emergency Services were at the scene...and we understand that Kevin is already on the road to a full recovery.

The mobile defibrillator was generously donated to Barry Town Veterans FC and Wales Veterans FA by Aberthaw/Tarmac and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude for this crucial piece of equipment.

If used within the first couple of minutes of Cardiac arrest, the survival rate for victims can be as high as 90%, but if delayed for longer than ten minutes, the chance of survival is unfortunately lower than 5%.

Thanks to Paul's alertness, a potential fatality was averted.
