Accies, Merthyr, Continental and Llanelli advance to semi-finals!

12th January
Swansea 1, Cardiff Academicals 3
An excellent team performance by the visitors at Penyrheol Lesiure Centre earned them a deserved, albeit rare, win over the hosts. A Vaskin brace and an own goal by Chris Jones put the Accies into 3nil lead, and although the hapless Buckland put through his own goal to gave Swansea a consolation, the Accies advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Llanelli Town on 27th April.

Merthyr Tydfil, Barry Town
A terrific encounter at Ystrad Mynach House of Sport ended with the hosts advancing to the semi-finals after winning a penalty shoot-out...writes a pitch-side reporter... A fairly even first half saw the hosts edge possession, with Nikki Francis orchestrating, but they found the visitors well organised and defiant, and neither keeper was tested until the 30minute mark when man of the match, Francis slalomed through the Barry defence only to be denied by a superb acrobatic save by gloveman, Vorster.
As the second half progressed, Merthyr started to dominate and created several gilt-edged chances and, but for their profligacy in front of goal and a stubborn rear-guard action by their opponents, they would, and should, have taken the lead. Inevitably, with minutes remaining, the visitors had their chance to steal the tie, Brown’s shot from the edge of the box evading Merthyr stopper, Bailey.....and to the relief of the hosts.....the upright! In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Evans, Roberts, Francis and Carpanini scored for Merthyr, but although James and Burksfield converted for Barry, Keeper Bailey saved from both Cooksey and Wilson to secure a 4-2 win.

Llanelli 3, Penybont 1
The hosts defeated a high-flying Penybont side at a chilly Penrhos School...writes Neil Bryant.... The hosts started the brightest with chances created but not converted and with Penybont dangerous on the break half time arrived all-square. The second half started evenly but it was Penybont who scored first, after a through ball split the Llanelli defence. Goalkeeper, Edwards made a great save initially but the rebound fell to a Penybont striker, Cavalli, who slotted home. Within minutes Llanelli were level through a Stamp penalty and then took the lead on 68 mins when Buck headed home a Howells free kick. With Penybont pushing for an equaliser on 77 mins Stamp put the hosts 3-1 up after excellent work by Davies and man of the match Waters. An excellent game ended with a fine Llanelli win which sees them, advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Cardiff Academicals on 27th April.
