In the Wales' first match of the o55s Home Nations tournament they faced a 'new look' England squad, and with several former professional players in their ranks, turned out to be a force to be reckoned with. In a very fast, end to end game Wales missed 2 good early chances whereas England took theirs with aplomb. Their dominance reflected in the 4-1 score line.
A 10.30am kick-off on Saturday morning meant that the Welsh lads had little time to recover. N.Ireland had the edge and scored an early goal which allowed them to sit deeper and soak up the Welsh pressing. This also allowed the sharp Irish strikers to take advantage of the space and they, like the English, took their chances to run out comfortable 4 -1 winners.
On the Sunday a debilitated Wales faced an England over 60s team who took an early lead but, after a bit of shuffling by manager Shane Davies, a debilitated Wales started to get some rhythm and gradually overpowered their older rivals to run out 4 - 1 victors.
England were worthy winners of the tournament, defeating Northern Ireland 2-1. This was a tough weekend for the Welsh lads but they demonstrated a excellent attitude for their manager and represented the 'Wales Veterans' with pride.
