The Wales Veterans' Football Association hosted a Droitwich o50s squad at the Ocean Park Arena in Cardiff and came away with a fine win in manager, Andrew Yorke’s first match at the helm....writes a pitch-side reporter...
In a fine match, played in a great spirit and with both teams trying to play the right way, the hosts dominated the ball for long periods of the first half, playing a 3-5-2 system, and they went in at half time 2-0 up.
In the second half, Wales scored an early goal with some lovely build-up play to make it 3-0, but on the hour mark a defiant Droitwich got a goal back on the counter-attack. The hosts continued to play some classy football and there were some outstanding personal performances including Riches, Delaney and man-of-the -match ‘Willie’ Williams. Wales scored two further goals before the visitors grabbed a late consolation to make the final score 5-2.
